Dr. Christopher J. Hart, MD, FACS, FASMBS is an award-winning, board-certified general and bariatric surgeon with extensive experience helping patients improve their health and achieve lasting weight loss. He specializes in sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and revisional bariatric surgery, as well as other foregut surgery including anti-reflux procedures for GERD. He has been a pioneer in minimally invasive bariatric surgery and employs the latest techniques in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also offers non-surgical weight loss programs with GLP-1 RA drugs such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, with his patients receiving personalized physician guidance, dietitian support, and tailored nutrition and medication plans for safe, lasting results.
Dr. Hart is the founder of Atlanta Bariatrics and Johns Creek Surgery, as well as the co-founder of the Emory Bariatrics program. Currently, he serves as the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Emory Johns Creek Hospital, where he also previously served as Chief of Staff. A pioneer in outpatient bariatric surgery, Dr. Hart founded the Atlanta General and Bariatric Surgery Center and continues to lead as its Bariatric Medical Director.
He is a native of Atlanta. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Hart attended medical school at the University of Alabama – Birmingham. He performed his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, finishing as Chief Resident in Surgery. Dr. Hart has been practicing surgery in the Atlanta area for over 25 years.
Dr. Hart has been named one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America and has been consistently chosen by his peers as one of Atlanta's Top Doctors year after year. He has taught courses on the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of bariatric patients, as well as taught and proctored other surgeons around the world on new techniques in weight loss surgery.
Dr. Hart is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
