Revisional Surgery

Weight-loss surgery is usually the solution for patients to achieve long-term weight loss. Most patients achieve their weight-loss goals and enjoy improved health. Some patients, however, may consider revisional surgery if they haven’t yet reached their goals. Dr. William H. Johnson and Dr. Christopher J. Hart can evaluate a patient’s weight loss concerns and set him/her back on the path to success.

There can be a variety of reasons why a patient may consider a revision:

  • Inadequate weight-loss
  • Weight re-gain
  • Unresolved health problems
  • Medical or surgical complications
  • Patients who underwent early procedures known to be associated with weight re-gain, such as the vertical-banded gastroplasty, stomach-stapling.

Getting Started

The first goal at Johns Creek Surgery, PC, is to determine if the original weight loss surgery procedure can work. Together, doctors and patients refocus on diet, exercise habits, and patient education that they may be lacking if they had weight loss surgery elsewhere. For some patients, this is all that is needed; however, other patients have issues that will require revision surgery. Dr. William H. Johnson, and Dr. Christopher J. Hart are fully dedicated to the health and well being of every patient and are here to discuss all weight loss options available.

There is a wide variety of revisional surgeries available. Some patients convert to a different weight loss approach while others add an additional procedure such as a LAP BAND® or Band Plication to a previous surgery. The types of revisional surgery available will vary for each patient depending on the original weight loss surgery performed and the reason the patient is requiring a revision.

About the Procedure

At Johns Creek Surgery, PC, almost 100% of our revision procedures are done using Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS). This involves making one single incision instead of multiple incisions, or large incisions. SILS has undeniable benefits which includes, less pain and scarring, and decreased risk of complications. Patients go home the same day of surgery and begin their normal activities within 1 or 2 days.
